Working Student

Our mission:

Are you a motivated student who wants to combine sustainability, data, and technology while gaining hands-on experience in ESG management within an international software company?
At Open-Xchange (OX), we develop open-source communication and collaboration software used by public sector organizations, telcos, and hosting providers to keep data secure and under their control. Our products cover email, collaboration, DNS security, and related services, and are used by millions of people worldwide.
We believe that responsible business means understanding our environmental impact, improving transparency, and enabling meaningful climate action through reliable ESG data and accessible sustainability information across the company.

Discover what OX offers you:

  • We work in a non-hierarchical organization that empowers everyone to take responsibility, stay focused, and contribute directly to the company’s success and customer value.
  • We value expertise and continuous professional development. Our professionals take ownership of their work, collaborate closely across experienced teams, and continuously expand their skills.
  • Openness and diversity are core to OX. Different perspectives, backgrounds, and ways of thinking strengthen our collaboration and help us see the bigger picture.

Your team:

You’ll join a cross-functional team bringing together Compliance, Legal, Risk Management, and Finance, and work closely with colleagues across OX to strengthen and evolve our ESG data foundation.

Your new job:

ESG data & carbon footprint
  • Collect, structure, and validate ESG and carbon data across teams, entities, and value-chain partners.
  • Help build and continuously improve OX’s ESG data backbone using digital tools and ESG software — driving better data quality, consistency, and transparency.
  • Support carbon footprint calculations by researching data sources, preparing assumptions, and documenting methodologies and estimates.
Customer requirements & ESG communication
  • Support the analysis of ESG-, sustainability-, and climate-related customer requirements and help translate them into clear, actionable insights.
  • Contribute to ESG-related RFP/RFI responses and support the creation of scalable ESG documentation, templates, and knowledge resources.
Climate policy & internal enablement
  • Research emerging best practices and market expectations around climate strategy, carbon accounting, and sustainability reporting.
  • Support climate-related policies and internal ESG initiatives while helping embed sustainability knowledge across the organization.

Your background:

  • Currently enrolled as a student and having successfully completed the first semesters in a relevant degree such as Sustainability Management, Environmental Sciences, Business Administration, Business Analytics, Business Informatics, Corporate Responsibility, or a comparable field.
  • Interest in ESG, sustainability, and carbon footprint management within an international business environment.
  • Enjoy working with data, structuring information, and improving data quality and transparency.
  • Reliable, detail-oriented, and well-organized working style with the ability to work independently.
  • Motivation to contribute ideas, take ownership of tasks, and learn new topics in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong communication skills and confidence in collaborating with different stakeholders and teams.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; German language skills are a plus.

This is what you get at OX:

  • A meaningful working student role in an international environment where you can contribute directly to ESG and climate initiatives.
  • The flexibility to work up to 100% remotely or in one of our German offices, creating a setup that fits your personal needs and study situation best.
  • Flexible working hours that allow you to successfully balance your studies, home life, and work responsibilities.
  • Getting together in-person for workshops and fun team events.
  • Sign up to Urban Sports Club and Corporate Benefits.
  • An open and supportive company culture that values openness, diversity, responsibility, continuous learning, and actively encourages questions, ideas, and initiative.
